Letters, Sept. 19: ‘Street checks worked to keep violence down’

IT’S ABOUT TIME
The belligerent (Mayor Naheed) Nenshi posse is going to come to an end. Thanks for nothing. Coun. Jeromy Farkas is going to win this with a landslide victory and change the face of Calgary. Too bad we cannot speed the election up to this October.
EDWARD LIBBRECHT
(We’re hearing a lot of this but only time will tell what happens.)

GET THE LEAD OUT
With irritability, difficulties in concentration and in particular memory loss as some of the symptoms of lead poisoning, maybe the city should check the water supply to the Cowtown Kremlin.
STUART WEEKS
(There must be some explanation.)

BAD, BAD SUN
Re: Virus outbreak at two or more. Funk & Wagnalls defines an “outbreak” as “said of passion or disease affecting large numbers of people at once.” Does two or more cases out of a school population of several hundred constitute an outbreak? Methinks the Calgary Sun is sensationalizing this event. Shame on you, Calgary Sun. People have enough on their platters during these hard times and this type of reporting does nothing at all to calm the waters.
BRUCE STEWART
(Heavy sigh. We are using the terminology of Dr. Deena Hinshaw and the province. Don’t like it, complain to them. No shame here.)

THE OTHER SIDE
What’s this? Rick Bell actually allowing the other side of the story some air time? The ultra right-wing, only blue will do, conservative-lending print space to the idea that there is an alternative to the money grubbing PC’s in this province. Rachel Notley is a true leader, a politician that doesn’t sacrifice the poor and vulnerable in favour of the wealthy and powerful. The only one to stand up to big business and say no, you will pay your fair share, and contribute to the welfare of all Albertans, not just the fat cat society. Yah. the NDP has some weird ideas, but she was even keeping them at bay while she turned around the economy, destroyed by 40 years of pocket-stuffing Conservatives, raping and pillaging the province. Premier Jason Kenney is a liar and a cheat, he wants to cut corporate taxes while cutting education, health care, AISH, and emergency services funding. He sold us a false vision of a prosperous province that still cared. Just stop and listen to what she has to say, it’s not a socialist agenda, she does not support Liberal fanaticism, she works for all Albertans, she strives for diversity from an O&G-based economy while supporting those workers, getting those pipelines built, and opening up coastal access. Blue will not do anymore, there are alternatives.
ROBERT J. McMECHAN
(Did you write that with a straight face? Calling Rick Bell ultra-right wing is about as ridiculous as you can get. That kind of ridiculous rhetoric is everything wrong with the left. And you should know we don’t have PCs.)
